I'm going to get a Traditions Kentucky rifle kit to get back into more simpler muzzle loading. I have been out of all muzzle loading for a while. The cal will be 50, if my memory serves me right .490 ball with either a .010 or .015 patch. I can't remember if the combination was same as bore or just the next size.

With the patch and ball together you'll want slightly over bore size, a .490 with .018 pillow ticking patch works great. I go for the tightest combination that I can reasonably ram down.

How much bigger than the bore size can you go? My last front loader was a TC New Englander in 50 cal.

Of the 2 patch sizes and the 2 ball sizes the gun itself will tell you the story once you try those combinations. I usually shoot mine off the bench at 50 yards and see how those loads shoot.

When I get mine made the initial sight in at 25 then back to 50 for load tuning.
