The Pedersoli Mang in Graz target pistol in its incarnations. This is the design I like and am shooting for, although at a much much more modest level, think "plain Jane" if you will.

But .. like Zonie, I do enjoy the lines of this style of pistol, elegant and well appointed in appearance ...

My humble beginnings ... note that I have a Rayl 45 cal 10 " barrel to start with, stuck on my "try" stock.

I currently already have a nice piece of walnut I got from Dunlap woods, but I will not cut on it til I have a solid design down that I can repeat with some degree of skill.

I expect this project will take spell and last for a while and hopefully my very limited skill will increase with practice, before I tackle that nice piece of walnut.

Here are the tang and breech options I am currently considering other than a std breech plug with 2 inch tang I already have.

The dilemma:

What breech plug/tang to use? I like the snell shaped patent breech posted above best, which is sold by TOTW, it is safer I think, and certainly is slimmer in appearance than the patent drum assembly. It also follows the lines of the MAng pistols aboave. The rigid design also I think will lend itself to better accuracy than a hooked breech design (less movement).

I am thinkin that I wanna go with a patent breech to cut down on my own mistakes first time out.

Now ... the problem is I have a 7/8 width barrel and the snell patent breech above that I like is as far as I know only available in 15/16 .. so the question is .. is it plausible, and reasonable to file the breech area down safely to 7/8 on the patent breech plug without problem?

I think it can be done rather easily as you are only taking off about 1/32 around the perimeter to blend with the size of barrel. So what do you think .. am I in the ball parkd here, or do you guys have a better way of doing this or know someone who sells this design in 7/8 size?

Please help ... all comments and suggestions are welcome here!

Thanx

:hmm:

Facing off the 15/16 breach plug to match the 7/8 barrel should not present any problems as long as the lock is not inlet yet. If the lock cavity has already been inlet you might have a problem aligning the cock with the nipple.
