Several years ago I bought two small scrapers. One round and one flat and about 3/8" wide. Both of these were superb and the flat one actually had a slight arc backward toward the handle which I think really aided its function.

Well, in my last project I knocked it off the bench and when it hit the concrete floor it shattered most of the blade off. :cursing: Actually the tiny piece that is left works great for working really tiny tight areas! But clearly I want a good replacement.

I have two other scrapers from MBS, but in comparison those are "clunky." I'm looking for one similar to what I had, but I'll be darned if I can remember where I got it. I've searched the internet at all my usual sources, broad online searches, as well as some local stores in my area. Nothing.

I'm posting pics...if anyone has a tip on a source for something similar, please advise.

the brownells scrapers say Royal Arms Inletting Tools. I typed it in my search bar & found 3 or 4 places that have them. 9 to 12 dollar price range.

Those are nice, seems they could be made up from screwdrivers with a blade welded on ?????? Tom

Those would be the ones! Thanks!!!

Even though the internet "appears" to show several sources, when one clicks on them they are those stupid URL's that are not even remotely related to what one is looking for. Another just took me back to Brownell's.

Looks like Midway USA also HAD them, but are discontinued. Now when I think back on it, I believe that's where I got them originally.

Will have to give Brownell's a call.

That's the spirit, Eric! You know what they say: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I might have to try and make some of those.

Thanks for that tip Eric! I was needing a couple of concrete nails to use for patch box latches anyway. After I saw your post I got busy and now have a pound of them on the way!

Good luck Spikebuck on your search!

I make them from my worn out sawz-all blades ground to what ever shape I need.
I don't care for wood handles if I can avoid using them but rather use Kevelar rubber faced glazing gloves to grip them in use.
This method gets the grip closer to the work for better control in tight spots.
The ones I use the most are from Brownell's and are by Jerry Fisher, a well know stock maker.

The ones at the top are specialized tools made from medical instruments.
The colored ones in the middle are the Jerry Fisher tools and the sawz-all tools are at the bottom.
The one to the left was made for hogging out a octagon barrel channel.
I do quite a bit of stock work and the Jerry Fisher tools along with the sawz-all ones get a lot of use and are easy to sharpen with a diamond file or stone gouge slip.

Since you have located the replacements for what you have, if you are looking for more variety and types you may want to check out Lee Valley. They have a great selection of small chisel, scrapers, rifflers etc at fairly reasonable prices.

I started making these scrapers to work the grain around a pin knot cluster on the backs of the osage bows I make.

On my last build I didn't have a gouge the same size as the nose of the Chambers round face lock so I made one out of a concrete nail, worked great, a perfect fit when I inletted the lock.
