Can anyone help me with this? I'd like to know the time period and location. Am I correct in assuming this is an English pistol? What about an approximate time period?

I can't tell from the picture. English locks tended to have round faced lock plates. Germanic locks had flat lock plates. looks like a martial pistol. Don't know enough about such pistols to venture more than taht.

Sorry, but we need a little more information to be sure. It favors an English Dragoon. Carvings, trim, shape of frizzen top, caliber, would help etc GrampaJ in NC

That's the only picture I have, no other details. I don't need specifics about model or military use, just country of origin and approximate time period.

The picture doesn't give much detail. Is there a maker's name on the lock plate? The barrel appears to be brass (?) If so, it is probably an English "sea-service" pistol (or replica) What appears to be raised carving around the tang is common on English martial flintlock pistols in the 1760-1810 era. Lacking better images this is only a guess.

Without more pictures, including markings, it is not certain to say.
It bears a strong resemblance to two British naval pistols in Gilkerson's 'Boarders Away Vol. II - see pages 245 and 246. The lock & trigger guard have a very similar profile as does the overall architecture. Interestingly, the pistols in Gilkerson are dated 1720 and 1808 and vary only slightly from each other in spite of being nearly 90 years apart. After the Napoleonic period, the RN adopted a shorter barreled pistol.

I don't know if there's a maker's name on it. Like I said, that's the only picture I have of it.

Okay, thanks for all the help. I need something a bit earlier than that. I'll keep looking.
