just got my new lyman plains pistol. It's a percution lock, the lock does not line up with the nipple real well. The nipple does not line up in the center of the lock, but it is very close to rubbing the inside of it.What to do

My first thought would be why not return it since it is new? Why hassle with it. Warranty covers workmanship. I have a Lyman that I just got and the aglinment of the hammer and nipple is very good. I am thinking you just got a bad one .. return it and get a working one ... it will be worth the wait.

mwindy, that sounds good but i bought it at midsouth and they have a 20% restocking fee.sould i send it to them or to lyman, and would lyman do anything about it :hmm: .Thanks, murf

The restock fee doesn't apply for returns due to defects (my experience). I would call Midsouth and talk with the returns department, they should be able to direct you in the right path to get you a working Pistol.

Many of the replica guns have misalignments between the hammer nose and the precussion nipple.

This usually does not cause a functional problem so it is a matter of appearance.
IMO, if the hammer has enough clearance so that it does not drag down the side of the cap, don't worry about it.

If however, it does drag down the side of the cap as it falls the gun should be returned to the seller or the factory.

Fellas, thanks for the help.I just returned it to lyman for a fix.The trigger was a bit sluggish too.It cost me $16 bucks to send it to the factory but i think it should be worth the time. :(
Midsouths policy is if it has a problem talk to the factory.I will update as soon as it arives. The good news is i just orderd a trade rifle to go with the plains pistol.
thanks,murf

Cant wait to shoot it,i've read nothing but good stuff about lyman guns.Murf
