HI, I'm John, I'm from Adelaide in South Australia, I've been interested in muzzle loading rifles for many years. mainly for hunting. We mainly hunt rabbits, foxes, goats, pigs and occasionally fallow deer. All native animals (Kangaroos, wallaby etc) are protected and can't be hunted. I use a .53 Uberti Santa Fe Hawken, one of my sons has recently taken to bow hunting with a recurve. Great site.

Welcome to the Forum John. I too have a Santa Fe that I have had for 25 years or so. It has taken quite a few elk and a few deer. After all the use it still shoots good targets. I won a percussion aggregate with it last year.

A big welcome from the northern hemisphere,John.
When you look at all the members you will find a lot of guys from Down Under.

Howdy John, welcome aboard! I've been thinking about getting one of them Santa Fe Hawkens, myself. They're sure a good looking gun and I hear they shoot as good as they look.

To Plink,

I've had my Santa Fe Hawkin for about 5 years, Its very accurate and seems to shoot well with light loads as well as full loads. Its actually .53 cal because that was the calibre of the original Hawken that Urberti copied. I use a lee .529 mould with .012 patches.
Mr Hawkin got it right because this is a very comfortable rifle to shoot, and you're right, it looks good too.
