Hi guys I love the site its like being a kid in a sweetshop
Have been shooting breech loaders for years and am going to pick up a .50 kentucky musket by armisport next week. Its going to be a long wait.
So any advice on using patched ball would be usefull

Thanks

Welcome to the group. This is a good place to catch up on things and gain tons of information. When you get your .50 cal, send some pictures.

Hello from across the big pond. Logically, with a .50 caliber, you should start with a .490 round ball and a pillow ticking or linen patch about .015 to .018 thick. A good lube to use is one part soluable oil, seven parts water. Ballistol is also a great lube choice. Saturate your patches and let them dry out and they are ready to use.

What part of the U.K. ? My son-in-law is from Whales. He is b ack in the U.K. working for Praxiar for a while. ( Well actualy he is back state side for a week but then he is back to your side of the pond. )

Hello, and welcome! You should be able to find a lot of info on loads for your 50 cal. rifle in the archives here. Good luck on your acquisition.

Welcome, Mr TA - I too live in the UK - for much of the year anyhow!

Actually, as little as I can manage. Give me a PM so we can swap locations and stuff.

Best
