Hello all I hope is well! What are some of the historical ways of lubing patches for flintlock rifles around the time of the Revolution? What mixtures/techniques/substances would have been used? I am already familiar with bear grease. Thanks!
Tenngun pretty much covered it all. Maybe spit was used in a pinch once or twice too.Whale oil too. There was a lot available, so it wasn’t a specialty item.
Olive oil, called sweet oil too was available in America.
Lard or tallow was also common.
