I have some nice old (really old) Oak and Hard Maple flooring scraps that should make some Cadillac loading blocks. So what size holes do I want for .32, .45, .50, .54, .56, .58, etc? Rule of thumb for .010 under bore ball and .015-.018 patch?

I never measured mine I drilled a hole to the size, .45=7/16, .50 =1/2, .54= 17/32, then take a round file or sand paper on e dowel and work it out till the patched ball goes in but won’t pop out when you shake it
