Not wanting to spend 30-50 bucks on a peg reamer, I stumbled upon a home version of a reamer that works perfectly. I used our kitchen knife sharpener, its round and same size as my pegs, and its tapered and has a nice handle. Works like a charm and the wife didn't mind me using it.

You mean a stone or a steel? How long does it take to cut?

This one is made out of steel and is similar to a file almost. It is round and tapered in shape its kinda like this one but is tapered at the end, and its the same size as my pegs. Knife Sharpener

It only took me about 10-15 mins to cut the taper, but didn't cut it so hte peg would fit all the way in. My neck is thin and didn't want to risk snapping it. But its in more than 3/4 of the way. I put the steel in it and twisted it so it would cut then moved it in and out to help cut it and it worked like a charm. It did take a fair amount of elbow grease but not a lot. It was more work to file the recesses in my horn than it was to cut the taper.

In my area Tru-Value Hardware stores sell a tapered reamer under the General Tool name for less then $15. I forget the price since I have had mine for a few years. It has worked for me very well.

The handle tang on a file works very well as a taper reamer for a horn.Find one the size that best suits the hole you need and twist it in.Make a peg to fit the hole and yer done.
