Hello,

I am curious if anyone has ever made or attemped to make a powder measurer from a deer hoof? If so how did you do it? I have noticed that the inside of the hoof has a large bone surronded by a soft pad like material. I think it might be possible to make a measure for the bone material at the least.

Any comments or ideas welcome to figure this out!

I've made rattles for bandoliers (used to dance Old Style Souix in the Order of the Arrow) and the core pops right out when you boil them.

The hoof would make a measure (and dogs love them as chew treats); but they would be wider than deep, which isn't the best for consistancy in a powder measure.

The distal phalanx bone ( ) itself might work. Will depend on the size you can hollow it out to. I never tried that.

Perhaps not, buy you could make them into powder funnels for small bore rifles... :hmm:
