Brown Bess reworked and finished by me, Horn by Lee Larkin, Bag by Jack Hubbard, Knife by Hershel House.

I'm please with all of it.

Nice, Can you show a closer shot of the horn? Looks like it has some scrimshaw work.
Lehigh...

No, it is the plain horn of a farmer. I'm going to order a fancy horn from Scott Sibley I think.

Very nice! Looks like quality and as authentic as the outfit you're wearing in your avatar.

What kind of critter has its fur on the shooting bag?

It is a Japanese made Short Land Pattern (Second Model.) It was marked Lyman on the breech and had a serial number. I removed these spurious markings. The company that made it is the same one that makes Winchester over&unders and some Brownings. Mirko I believe is the company name. Dixie Gun Works used to import them. It was unfired when I got it. I browned/cloroxed & steel wooled all the metal to give it a slightly pitted pewter colored look. I stripped the stock, took off a lot of excess wood that didn't belong on the forearm, & reshaped the lock panels. I also had to solder a barrel lug that had popped loose from the barrel. The stock was refinished with Dangler's Dark Brown stain and Formby's Satin Tung Oil Finish. Before the tung oil was applied, I steel wooled the wrist and forearm to lighten them up and to give a slighty worn look. I also filled some of the not so good inletting in with white glue and black acrylic paint.

Mark That's a great job.Is that the gun you had in a picture a while back. Think it was you with a new coat and a 36" barreled gun. if it was, was the barrel originally that length?
love the look , I just finished a 36" musket with tung oil ,the stock is birds eye maple .I took the shin off with soot from my wood stove (ready for turkey season) the soot will come off with the next coat of tung oil.
:hatsoff:

The gun in the other picture was a North Star West "Officer's Musket." I just sold it. It came with a 36" barrel.

Mark - I was notified today that Scott Sibley has finished a map horn for me on which is depicted the Great Wagon Road and Wilderness Road. This will be further embellished with mountains, wild animals and figures of longhunters and indians. (I think that is what we agreed) The horn will be slightly aged. I have waited 3 months. $100 downpayment when he starts the horn - balance on completion.
