Horn Inkstand

Here's an inkstand I just finished. The ink pot and pounce pot are made from walnut and horn. The pen holder is made from walnut and the base is made from maple.

The more I looked at the pen holder the less I liked it. I made it from walnut but it wasn't the same piece as the other parts and is noticeably darker. So I re-made it in maple, which I think looks better.

When it comes to making things we are our own worst critics. Personally, I think it is fine looking both ways.
