Let's narrow the scope of this question a little. F'rinstance, will you be portraying a courier du bois, settler, NDN, or what? Will you be reenacting or just going to rendezvous? When in doubt, go with what's plain and common.

Good point. Answer is none, and all, of the above. If I build one of these, I will probably outfit as an HBC trapping party member, even though European-American penetration of Southern Oregon would only be confirmed in 1827, the Oregon Country in general in the 1790s.
