Horn Staple and strap attachment

I am finished with a horn with the exception of the front strap attachment. The horn is pretty thin. I can see through it in the light. I am concerned about making a "groove" to keep a strap in place because there is not much depth for the groove. The thickest part of the horn is about the first 1.5-inches from the tip. I can get a staple or "nail" in that and it will hold without interfering with the flow inside. What other things can I consider to attached a strap to the front? My strap is braided and has each strand loose on the ends. In the rear, I just tied them to a little "knob" on the wood plug. I can tie to something on the front but I cant decide what that something should be.

Use a 1/4" round file and make a groove that runs all the way around the horn, apx. 1" from the tip.

Similar to a suggestion on the ALR, maybe take a 1" or so wide strip of leather, or rawhide, fold it in half lengthwise and sew it so that it forms a loop that while dry will not quite fit over the end of the horn all the way back to where you want it. Punch a hole through the ends for something to tie into. Wet it and work it over the end of the horn to where you want it. When dry or should stay put. The rawhide will stretch to fit then shrink down onto the horn a lot tighter than the leather.

I always make the front groove first before thinning the horn... that way you don’t run out of material. With that being said, you still might be able to go closer to the spout end and make a groove. Or use a staple to hold your strap in place. I’ve only done a couple staples...not too terribly hard, but a little tricky to do correctly.
