Anyone have any experience with Hornadys' Great Plains Bullets. I was thinking of trying them in my 50 cal TC White Mt carbine. The ones I saw were 385 GR.

I have a friend with a WMC and they won't fit in the bore on it. Just a little to large in diameter. But that may be just his barrel, who knows.

They are designed to be a slip fit on the first two bands then engauge the rifing on the third band. It is a little hard to get past the last one, make/use a short starter.

The dia. is made specifically to fit TC barrels. On my GM barrels they are a little loose and you have to be careful that they do not come unseated before firing. In cold weather I use some NL 1000 to lube/keep them seated. This is too thin in warm weather and I cut it with some beeswax.

Have had good luck in my 54 1-28 GM barrel with 425 gr and in my lyman 58 1-48 with the 525 gr (ouch!!!). Have not tried the 50 cal as my fast twist 50 likes buffalo bullets and I ran across a great deal on a lot of those (750 bullets for $40)

.45cal/285s and .50cal/385s were excellent in TC .45 & .50 cal standard 1:48" barrels of mine.
Plastered natural lube 1000 on them, and used 100grns Goex 2F in both calibers, with an Oxyoke prelubed wad over the powder.

I think Rebel was writing about my WMC. You can't force a Hornady GP down the barrel. Now my TC Hawken54 cal......No Problem, and it shoots them well! Oh yea! the WMC is a 50 cal.

I had a couple of boxes, shot well. I bought some remingtons cheeper (a buck a box) on a wallmart close out I shot my first ml deer with one good expansion for sure. Again the lube is junk, had to relube with bore butter. I was able to group well at 50 yards with the renegade in 54cal.

Wink , I don't have TCWMC but I have a Traditions Carbine fast twist barrel and as far as accuracy is concerned the TC Maxi Ball is a whole lot better, but in my Lyman Great Plains Hunter the the Great Plains 385 is the best of all I have tried.

I had really good groups with a 285 grain .45cal great plains conical. They are a little tougher to load but are a very good performing bullet on game. I just prefer powerbelts in the .45 for right now.

I have a CVA that has a 26" 1:32 twist barrel. My primary bullet for it is the 385 grain Buffalo Bullet. They shoot excellent and are easy to ram home. Just be prepared, they pack a hell of a wallop when loading with 80 grns of pyrodex. Only draw back I see is the trajectory.

I've had excellent results with the Hornaday Great Plains bullets. Much better than with TC Maxi bullets. Yes they do load harder than other bullets, but they also shoot smaller groups in my TC Hawkens. In 50 cal I like the 385 gr HP bullet and the 390 gr HP bullet in 54 cal. These bullets preform very well on deer and will shoot extremely well behind heavy hunting charges. Don't worry about leading, brass brush will take care of that, and these are hunting bullets not plinking bullets. You will not feel the recoil when shooting at a deer. Just remember not to zero your rifle in a T-shirt and you will be just fine. Midsouth shooters supply has the best prices on these bullets. You should be able to find them on the web. These are great hunting bullets.

I like the 425gr in my 54cal Renegade. It is great. I did an expansion test and it expanded to the size of a quarter. I was using 100gr Goex. Great load.
