Seems Hornady is having a problem. I had RBs for my 45 rifle on order, but was told they would be backordered for a couple weeks. Waited a month and then received a email saying they were backordered another month. Went and canceled that order and found something else instead. Whats the deal with Hornady? Does anyone know?

Thats a good reason to mold your own. You can get your money back in just a few hours. There are several topics on where to find lead and molds etc. in this forum.

A quick google search showed several places advertising .440 balls. Just because the factory is out of stock does not mean retailers are also out of stock.

OP stated they were "back ordered" I don't think Hornady orders their own balls, so I imagine he is dealing with a middleman retailer. Often the retailers wait until they need enough stock to justify an order. That is the case with my local provider. He will run out of .440 and .490 but have lots of other balls. He does not reorder until his entire stock runs low. He did mention that Hornady makes it difficult (price wise) to order small shipments.
