This is the last page in the series. http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/photogallery/article/0,13355,1589309_7,00.html

My GGFather was a market hunter(born 1902). He taught my Granddad, who in turn taught Dad and myself(We still have his 1897 pump and Browning Automatic, as well as a number of hatchet and draw knife made decoys). I no longer actively duck hunt. Some of the methods and techniques I was taught have been outlawed for decades; watching "duck hunters" with robo-ducks and blind heaters make me gag. About the only thing we have in common with the old market hunters is the decoy; I've hunted over my own hand carved decoys more than a few times, usually mixed in with plastic ones to increase the "flock". But as illegal as it is, I'd love just one time to make a night hunt with a punt gun. There really aren't many illegal things I'd like to do, but that one would be a dream come true. :nono:

Mule Brain, here is another fun site to visit. It is all about how to hunt deer with a mountain howitzer and a load of grapeshot. This is probably not legal anywhere that I hunt.

Mule Brain,
I too like big guns. I made the mistake of getting a copy of "Flintlock Fowlers" and had to have one. Mine isn't 13' long and it isn't mounted on the bow of a boat, but it is 7'4" with a 72" barrel. I wanted to shoot it offhand so we scaled it down to a 62 cal smooth and it came in at 11#. Shoots real good and never fails to draw a crowd. Don't know how to post pics but can send you some if you want.
Mark :)

I just got home from a trip to Pony Penning (Chincoteague, VA) and while there I stopped by at the Refuge Waterfowl Museum. While I have family on the Chincoteague Island I hadn't been by this museum for at least 25 yrs, I have been missing out! Not only do they have a great collection of decoys but they have at least one punt gun and a nice display on reloading. While "Cigar" Daisey wasn't there another old timer (I'm 33) named Bob Booth was and I was able to spend a few enjoyable hours listening to his stories. Now I have the hankering for a punt gun as well. I have a buddy in NC with a pond on his property, it would be neat to put a patterning board out and see what one will do...

Hey Sharps, if you're going through Salisbury hit the Ward Museum, they've got some neat displays on that type of thing as well. Of course some awesome carvings, too.

Osprey,
I hope to get up there next time I visit. This trip was my honeymoon so I was kind of limited on free time. The fact the new better half didn't mind the museum or listening to the stories is a huge plus!
