How do you buy your patches?

Strips

Sheets that you make into strips

pre cut but dry

pre cut and lubed?

I buy pre-cut dry patches and lube them myself.

I buy ticking or linen from the fabric store and cut it into squares. I soak them in a hot mixture of olive oil/bee's wax/lard and thread the stack together with a needle & thread. This goes inside the pocket of my hunting pouch and I simply peel them off the stack and use them.

i have been buying pre-lubed but now i buy by the yard and make and lube mine :v ...........bob

I buy a couple of yards of ticking at a fabric shop this lasts a long time. I cut it to strips. I lube depending on what I am doing and what rifle I am using. For target work I almost always use spit. The old boys that got me started in the late 50s thats all they used nothing else was even mentioned. That is unless hunting. Ticking comes in different thickness so you want to start out with a small amount till you see what works best. I also run it through the washer. Jim H

I'm like the rest. Buy ticking by the yard. Cut and lube myself. Saves a lot of money. They work just as good, if not better  .

I also buy my pillow ticking by the yard. At Wal-Mart. I wash the fabric, cut into strips, and cut individual patches from the srips.

Precut...mostly pre-lubed...only on some very special auction or clearance sale for $2-$3 bucks a 100, and get a couple thousand at a time

blue and white pillow material from walmart I think 3 yards runs around $3.00 bucks enought to last a long time,I precut and dip into lard and beeswax 60/40 mix,and a table spoon of olive oil :surrender:

Wal-Mart ticking and homemade lube for large calibers and buy prelubed for small calibers, cant find any .10 ticking

I use drill cloth and pillow ticking, lube with deer tallow, cut at muzzle. Dilly

Yardage that I cut into strips with a rotary cutter. Lube with Sno Seal. Cut patches at the muzzle or loading block. :winking:

I usually buy pillow ticking by the yard. I fold it over a few times and use a drill press and punch to cut my patches. For the sizes I don't have a punch for yet, I cut strips, then squares. I'm trying to get punches for all the calibers. I like to cut and lube them in bulk.

I have a few bags of precut patches that I keep on hand for one particular gun that doesn't seem to like pillow ticking. I'm going to keep tinkering with loads till it'll work with the ticking though.

I have been known to walk into my favorite locally owned fabric store with a micrometer in my hip pocket and examine various bolts of cloth, then make my purchase. First couple of times, I got funny looks, but they're used to me by now.

military cleaning patches are my choice for patching the ball and cleaning the bore. at the gunshows they are about $9.00 per 1000.

for ball patching, i put the ruff side to the bore. most material has two sides. one ruff and one smooth. DO NOT MIX THEM UP!!! in my guns with the ruff side to the bore, at 50yds, it shoots allmost a one hole group. with the smooth side to the bore it shoots a pattern. it do make a differance..

yup thats what I did at our local wallmart and found .028 and .030 canvas that works like a mother in my greenmtnbarrels.
I now own four bolt of each, don't plan on running out in my lifetime damnit :haha:

Ijust bought strips of oxyoke .020 from October Country and will sone be looking for a fabric shop that sells pillow ticking. F.K.

For shooting patches I use pillow ticking, wash it a couple of times, cut into strips and lube with mink oil, short start the ball and slice. For cleaning patches, I buy a yard or two of baby flannel and cut into strips and then into squares. I use the flannel for all my gun cleaning needs, just cut the squares into the size you need for the caliber.
