I too learned the hard way to always pin. I use 6 penny finish nails for all my pins. A small dab of epoxy keeps everything snug.

If I can whittle her so she fits nice and tight I just pin her on. If I'm in the shop and pop'n a top here and there she probably'll get the Tightbond III treatment along with one of Zonie's 1/16" brass pins....

Ive also found a small flat will allow air to escape with the epoxy - doesn’t really matter where the flat is.

yes it causes hydrulics if you don't have an escape area.

Pin AND glue your RR tip but not your jag. You don't want a jag on your ramrod except when you're actually cleaning the piece. At one point I used to keep a jag on the end of my ramrod even when I was shooting, but I learned the hard way not to do that.

No need to file a flat on the reduced wood just score the wood horizontally four or more times with a knife around the reduced diameter apply the epoxy then slowly slide the brass tip on let cure then drill for the pin, counter sink the cross hole and peen in place - done . P.S. I drill & tap the end of the brass tip for a cleaning attachment before I install it.

I want to thank everyone on the responses I received on my inquiry about pinning and epoxying ramrod tips. I was really surprised how much was out there on the subject. I appreciate all the good info that was provided. I am still waiting for the hickory blanks from the R.E. Davis company which I ordered about 10 days ago.
