I've honestly never used anything but Goex over the years, never even tried any BP substitutes, was almost going to order some Hodgden 777, but before I did I called a old Gunshop I used to work at to see if they still carried powder and they did. Although they were out of the Goex FFFg, they had this Schuetzen stuff. I also managed to get some of the ever elusive Remington #10 caps :D The salesman was saying Goex is closing down....first I've heard of that, then again I'm kinda out of the loop on these things nowadays.

There was an explosion at the GOEX plant on October 30th, nobody was hurt. I haven't heard if they are in production or not. GOEX is my go to also. When I was at the September Fall Nationals in Friendship, IN I tried buying a case of GOEX 3F, they didn't have a single bottle of 3F, I bought 15 lbs Schuetzen 3F at $20 per pound. I am mainly using it in my trade gun and save the GOEX for my rifles. Schuetzen works great, it's dirty as others have mentioned.

Thank you for all the replies! Hopefully I'll have some time to give this stuff a try over the weekend. The explosion at the Goex plant rings a bell now. The salesman at the GS said they were going out of business, hopefully that's not the case. The shop did have other Goex powder, just not the 3F I needed. I may go back and pick up some more of the Remington #10's while they have them.

I've used Schuetzen and agree with the above opinions about it being a bit dirtier, though I'm comparing it against Swiss, which is my preferred BP. I haven't used Goex.

I have no problems with Schuetzen and it's no dirtier than Goex. I prefer Schuetzen because they support youth black powder programs while Goex does not. So unless and until Goex changes their policy in that regard, I'll never use it promote it. So keep that in mind when reading threads about declining black powder shooting.

Couldn't have said that comment any better!
For me Schuetzen does shoot cleaner and more reliable.....and most importantly these days - its available.
