My question is, how thick of a lubed wad can be used between powder and ball?
For instance, how about a 44 cal wad punched from old 12 ga shotgun felt wads? I have some that are close to 1/2 inch thick.
I lube with beeswax and EVOO ...

I know I posted this in another post, didnt git answer there ,mebby here???
:idunno: :surrender:

Pour your normal powder charge into a chamber. Measure the distance from the top of the powder to the mouth of the chamber and subtract the diameter of the ball, you have your answer. The powder and the wad (depending on the material) will both compress somewhat which whould assure the ball seating in the chamber with a little to spare.

I have some lubed wads from circle fly that they make for revolvers. They are 3/8" thick and work well.

I make my own from 1/8th" durofelt. punched out at .457 dia. unlubed because I mostly shoot Lee mold conicals I've dipped in lube then set to dry
