I just picked up a T/C white mountain carbine. It was tapped for a scope. Is there something other then using screws to fill them in?

Usually the screws are 6x48. If you don't want to use filler screws then get some longer 6x48 screws
screw them in and then cut them off flush, file smooth then reblue, rebrown or whatever the color.
You could also do it with epoxy of the same color and file flat but the screw would be the best.

I will try that. Just hate to file cause I know I will take some bluing off. But the previous owner did not take care of it as it has rust spots on it. If I knew how to take bluing off I would rust it.

Use the screws like Deadeye said, but I would add that just filing them off flush will leave a little semi-circle line where the threads show. If you cut the screw off maybe 1/32" above flush, you can carefully peen down the edges to fill the thread line and then file off flush. Use a small ball-peen hammer or a rounded off punch. If done right it will be completely invisible. Use the softest screws you can find or thread some soft wire stock, maybe coat hanger wire would work. Good luck. Bill

Anyone who installs scopes should have a lot of the plug screws you need. Take your barrel to him, and look in the can until you find the ones you need. If the guy has an awful lot of them he may just give them to you.

+1 to snowdragon's post. I suggest you also consider securing the plug screws with red Loctite just to make sure they'll never back out on you. :thumbsup:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Plug all barrel openings and use naval jelly.....No more bluing.
