How to remove stuck touch hole liner.

Have an older Flintlock rifle.
Want to replace the touch hole liner. Seems to be frozen in place. Tried screwdriver in the slot but will not turn.
Short of using an E Z Out, is there another way to remove this old liner?

Take a large spike or a center punch or IF you have an old soldering iron (they are really copper) heat it red hot & hold the point of it to the vent liner & let it cool 4-5 times. This will head the vent liner & threads & expand & contract them & hopefully break it to where some penetrating oil will get in there.

Then take some 556, Liquid Wrench, Kroil, Barricade, or Ballistol & soak it good for several days, then see if it will come loose.
I'd even lay barrel flat, vent down, raise the muzzle about a inch & soak the bore with penetrating oil to get to the Inside threads of the vent liner. Put a rag under it or you will have penetrating oil all over the place.

It is most important the screwdriver FIT the slot, or you will bugger it up.

If all else fails, drill it out & use a straight shank Easy-out.

You may want to try some heat on the stubborn liner because some person may have used Locktite last time they put it in.

Plug the vent with a toothpick, pour in some Liquid Wrench, stand upright for a few days and either try again or go with what these fellows say...

What they said, except use auto transmission fluid and acetone on a 50:50 mix. It will give you roughly 1/2 the breaking force as the other stuff.

 

go to the autoparts store and get one of those aerosol freeze can's, and freeze this little bugger
that will shrink it up and make it turn loose of the threads... that is "if" it isn't loctited in.
