OK, not really a farm BOY as much as just an old farmer! Been shooting BP for the better part of 30 years and just today bought my first flintlock. Never knew this site existed but excited to be here. I have already made new friends and look forward to more! Greg

Welcome to the addiction! Sounds like you've got a start in this game. Jump in with questions or comments anytime.

Just out of curiosity, how S.W. are you in Iowa? Wife was from Quimby which isn't real S.W.

Oh about 50 miles SW of Des Moines. Greenfield, Iowa.......home of Cold Turkey. (A 1970s movie with a host of stars including Dick vanDyke and Bob Newhart.

Prepare yourself...Smithville is the home of "Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock & "Tree Of Life" with Brad Pitt. Folks are so proud, they put it on the billboard at the city limits...never mind that it makes them all look like a gang of inbred rednecks! :shocked2: :rotf:

Watch the movie...nobody can be proud of what those folks do! :rotf:

Thanks to all you guys and gals here. I do feel welcomed here and have been learning a lot (more than I thought I ever wanted to know) about flintlocks. I can tell that thanks to this website my bank account will be (and already has!) Taken a hit because of the good deals on muzzleloaders that are listed on these classified adds! Good folks.....good times! Greg :hatsoff:

Well, that's good to know that there is a site that welcomes rednecks like me. Although I haven't spent a lot of time at the rendevous in recent years, I have in the years past taken the old time sepia tone photos there and know how much fun you all can be!! Greg. :)

Welcome to the fire. Good to have another Iowa member. Get practiced up, the flint lock challenge is coming up in April. I'm not sure of the date yet, but the Beaver Creek Plainsmen put it on every year. It is a lot of fun. Leon

Thanks for the heads up on the Flintlock Challenge. Hopefully it won't be the middle of April as I'm out of state for one weekend then. I would love to go shoot there! Thanks. Greg. :)

Welcome from another old Iowa farm boy! I'm just getting my feet wet with this front loading stuff. Been shooting most everything else for over 50 years but only just began to dabble in this black powder stuff.

Good folks here! I've already learned a lot and expect to continue.

Good luck with that new 32 Frontier and be sure to let me know how it shoots. After shooting BP for close to 30 years I can tell you that it don't get outta ur blood too easy! Just sooo much fun to make that much smoke and then wait for the wind to clear the air to see if ya hit anything!! Greg. :)
