Anyone know any good places or have land they don't mind sharing? Looking to do a period hunt in TX. All the private land is leased, and Im a poor college kid.

I would just find a couple of our fine folks on here that live in Texas and ask them, Wes-Tex and a few others can probably help you out in your quest.

There is some public land available for hunting. Many of the wildlife management areas allow hunting on them. P&W has also leased some private land and it, too is available to the public. Some require that you make application to Parks And Wildlife for a drawing and some require just a permit from P&W. Go to your nearest sporting goods store such as Academy Sports and Outdoors and ask for one of the free hunting regulations handbooks that are put out by P&W. In there, it gives you all of the information about free or cheap hunting on public land in Texas. This website also has the information: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/season/

That one has a lot of hunting and fishing information but this one is more specific to your question: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/

Or, even better: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_bk_w7000_0112.pdf

That's a tough one , the draw hunts through TP&W are good hunts but you have to stay in the community camping area. And like you said most land is private and leased out. What are you wanting to hunt and when and for how long. Most folks around here want to know you for a while before they would cut you loose on their land. I can try and help just need more info one the when , what you want to hunt , time frame , who you are ect....

You might consider/check into hunting for "exotics" here in TX. = There are MANY ranches that offer hunting for NILGHAI, "ROCKY MOUNTAIN" SHEEP, AXIS, MOUFLON, BLACKBUCK & many other "foreign species" 7/365.

SOME of those ranches are cheaper than "pay by the gun" daily hunting. - One ranch that I know of has hunting for several kinds of "exotics" for 199.oo including everything, except whatever you bring to cook/eat.

yours, satx

Where 'bouts in Texas? Its a big state. What are you hunting?

Look into the LBJ National Grasslands. Also, some other national lands availble (Caddo, I think).
