Forgive me for being dumb but I am curious what the inside of the hunting pouch looks like. Is it just wide open? Does it have other little compartments inside? How does the gussett work? Does it make the pouch into 2 seperate pouches?

Thanks,

TH, making a hunting pouch is pretty much doing it the way you want. Gussets are for providing more room inside the pouch. They can be just at the bottom or a full gusset to open the pouch all the way to the top. They can be wide open on the inside with or without a gusset, have a divider inside to make it a two compartment pouch, have a smaller pocket front or back inside or outside. It all depends on what you want and what you want to carry. I made a pouch for a friend a few years back that had a divider inside with a small pocket on the front and back and a knife sheath sewn to the outside back. He used it for his flint double that he loaded one barrel with ball and one barrel with shot. Kept his stuff all seperated and easy to get to. By the time he had everything in there it felt like 20 pounds, had a 2 1/2 inch strap on it. Figure out what you need to carry and decide from there the way you want to make it. Others will probably chime in here to give you more thoughts on pouches.

Anyone got some pics of the inside?

Here is the inside of my largest bag.As you can see, there is an inside pocket as well as a larger one you can see under the flap. Also has one on the back of the bag.

I bought a hunting pouch that's pretty nice, but i'm going to sell it so I can make my own.

What tips can you give me? How do you sew it together?

I've never made one but I have a speedy stitcher that I will probably use to sew mine. Going to use some lighter leather I have. I am thinking I have some in black then will make a strap of some sort that is adjustable.

"What tips can you give me?"
Don't make it too big.

"How do you sew it together?"
The ways are many and varied.

I use a saddle stich with artifical sinew and an awl to punch holes for the needles/thread, measureing the holes to a 1/4" in the one in the photo.
That's like the 5th I've made, each one was a learning process for technique, material and desired features. :idunno:
That one is made from the hide of a dead cow, actually scrap pieces I picked from a pile for about 5$, was always gonna die it black, but kinda got use to it.
