If you could on any "once in a life-time" muzzleloader hunting trip, in any country, where would you go and for what animal?

Same...Alaska "anything"...and I wouldn't even have to score for the trip to be fullfilling...I've never been there but all the nature shows I've watched over the years suggests the country / scenery is so breath taking the trip alone would be worth it

anywhere i can go to get a big white mountain goat....baahhhhhhhh....i think there an awsome looking.................bob

Bob, we've got the big white Mt. goats right here but it's a "once in a lifetime" draw, about like winning the lottery to get a tag. I can see the area on the Mts. where they
live from my house. I like to hunt big Mule deer, wherever they are.

We used to watch the mountain goats on Ferry Peak at Alpine, Wyoming. During the summer we almost always saw some thru the Snake River Canyon. I counted 17 up there one day. I agree....neat animals....

I would Love to drive further north to Minnesota for a big black bear. We have plenty of bruins in Wisc but it takes a while to draw a permit. When I lived in Minnesota, black bear permits were easy to get. In fact, that's my life goal. To shoot a trophy bruin with my muzzleloader. As long as we are on the subject, how well does a .50 caliber roundball work on black bear over bait? Second animal would be moose.

Alaska for moose and if i didn't get to shoot anything i could at least do some fishing while i was up there and enjoy the scenery.

packed and ready for the season to start here in oregon. Then just head out this way and we'll go see if we can find ya an Elk to draw a bead on. Non resident License $78.50 Non resident Elk tag $361.50. Or just move out here to Gods Country and then a license is $22.50 or $43.75 for a combination hunting/fishing, and a resident Elk tag is $34.50. Be cheaper just to move out here huh. ::

I'm surprised no one wants to go to Antarctica and hunt penguins with a muzzleloading shotgun?

(That's just silly)

I'd like to go on a buffalo hunt way out west...

Got too many irons in the fire this year, but if we is still on speakin terms in the future I might just surprise you. (And me!)

Thanks for the invite.

How about a US exotic? In Dorchester County, MD there are introduced sika deer that are now free and wild on federal lands in the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. I've hiked around in that spot unarmed and can report they are clever and elusive. Not very big, but something different. They have a head like a mini-elk and, judging from where they live, webbed feet.

I am going to live the Alaska dream this summer. I am going up there to fish but the frontstuffer is coming along and I will try a spot and stalk for black or brown bear, whichever show's up.
My "once in a lifetime" would probably be for elk. I would also really like to get into some good hog hunting.
Being from Alaska means that my every day reality is most folks dream.
I want to hunt something not found in my neck of the woods.

Due to the fact you said a once in a life time hunt, it would have to be Africa for a number of different species over there. I think hunting some of the more dangerous cats and large buffalo with a muzzleloader would be pure thrill. I doubt if this would every happen unless I win the lottery. When I win the lottery I will take a number of friends with me to hunt...

Friends and I are talking about looking into an elk hunt but I admit they are a lot of talk. We have planned an elk hunt many different times but at the last minute they usually have reasons to back out.

Moose and large black bear would also be another hunt I would like to try somewhere down the road, but a promise I made to myself was I am going on a hog hunt somewhere... :: in the United States and SOON!!

On a different message board I read about hog hunts that people go on and use muzzleloaders. Those that have hunted hogs have no idea how exciting a hunt like that sounds. It is something I am going to do.

Hogs are great....they've been called "the poor mans grizzly". I think that's a bit of a stretch but the goofy things are unpredictable. Often times I've come to the conclusion even the hog doesn't know what it's thinking. A sow with babies can be a mean ol' witch....just like domestic hogs. A big ol' boar can be hatful too.....but, as with bears, more often than not they just want to "get away". I've been around hogs a lot and hunted them quite a bit too, got a 280 pounder mounted on the wall looking over my shoulder at the moment, and I've conversed with lots and lots of folks who hunt them more than I have. It's a pretty safe bet that the vast majority of hog charges are the result of a person being unlucky enough to be standing where the hog wants to run. Sure, they'll take a hook at ya as they pass by but a full blown charge from a hog is probably more rare than a full blown charge from a bear. But you never know that when they're trying to "get away".....great animals to hunt. I'm glad there are some within a half hours drive of me.

With out a doubt it would have to be Africa for Cape Buffalo, preferably charging, with a muzzle loader of course. ( I know, what is a Cape Buff doing charging with a muzzle loader?)
Once there I would go for several species of plain game, antelope. I have no interest in shooting an elephant or a lion, but the Leopard is a real prize.
Really it isn't all that expensive. You can take five species of large antelope for about 6 grand, not including trophy fees and airfare.
If I remember right a Cape would set you back another 2500, so for less than 10 you could have the Africa hunt. A guided griz hunt in Alaska will cost about that much.
I do think tht I'd want a bullet shooter for buff, at least .45 with a 500 plus grain bullet at 1200 f.p.s or better.
Sounds like another custom rifle is in order for this one hey?

I'd like to hunt moose in Finnland. I did have my once in a lifetime elk hunt last year, but only because it was my first time ever hunting. I'll be back in the Colorado hills this September and every fall as long as I can walk.
