On a Track of the Wolf English Fowler kit for my first build. Had considered the Brown Bess, but wanted something a little smaller in bore size as I already have a 12 gauge SXS.

I know going in, that the wood - being maple - will not be 100% "period correct" for the piece. I considered the trade musket, but just don't like the looks of that trigger guard and butt stock!

Anyone have any experience with that kit?

Dan

Dan, I have no experience with building anything like this, but I do have experience mailing books,and the two that we discussed are in the mail to you as of this morning!

Dan,
I have a rifle kit from Track and order parts etc. from them quite often, good outfit. I am just giving my opinion here and would not try to change a pards mind for anything if he had already made up his mind what he wanted to do. I will agree with Mike Brooks though. I recently bought a Chambers Pennsylvania Fowler kit and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Their Fowlers and other kits are A-1. They offer several different style Fowlers. I will be ordering another model Fowler from them in the next year. You can find many post here about Chambers and his kits. First rate customer service also.
Take a look.

Rich;

Looking forward to the books. Will return them promptly.

To all who made suggestions, thank you. The Chambers kits look nice, but are another couple hundred dollars. A full time student does not normally have tons of money standing in the gun safe and once the price has been scraped together, looking at another 6 months of saving my change doesn't look all that attractive. The difference is a gun I can order now and put together in the ensuing months, or continually looking at other people's slide shows.

Appreciate it, however.

Dan

I have one of Track's English Fowlers to build, just haven't started it yet. They sell top quality parts and materials. :thumbsup:

Only suggestion I have is that you order the stock without the lock inlet. That way you can have them send the Chambers Virginia Fowler lock for a few extra bucks. I believe the pre-inlet stock comes with an L&R Queen Anne. That's a good lock as well, I just prefer the Chambers. :wink:

What Raynor offers is very good advice.

For a little extra work now will bring you a lot of smiles down the road.
