I was worried about hunting in the downpours we had this morning getting my charge wet. I arrived home after seeing nothing and checked my gun.

I failed to reload it after taking a shot last week to see how well it was shooting.

Can't believe I did that.

:rotf: but I'm laughing with you...years ago I shot a Doe at first light with a Remington 760/.35Rem pump...dropped in her tracks, so I stayed right up in the treestand and slowly / quietly eased the slide back until the empty came loose and fell into my hand...slowly & quietly eased the slide back up until it clicked and sat over that trail until noon.

I finally got down, pulled out the clip and cycled the action to clear the chamber...nothing came out :shocked2: .

I had 'short cycled' the action when I ejected the empty case and the bolt wasn't quite far enough back to get behind the round in the clip and couldn't strip it off the stack...sat there the whole morning with an empty rifle :rotf:

All we can do is chuckle at ourselves and chaulk it up as a deer hunting memory...just be thankful a Boone & Crockett record buck hadn't stepped into view

Its one of those things you will never forget... or that your "freinds" will never let you forget. I have done this very same thing a few times. Never with a ML yet.

I've had friends do that with cartridge guns....we were on a pheasant hunt once and my buddy's shorthair went on point in a small thicket.....we walked in and he flushed a nice rooster, and all you heard was "click" when he pulled the trigger! :hmm: The air was blue with obsenities, and he ranted that he was never gonna use these dud shells again, ect, ect. We spent 10 minutes looking on the ground for the offending duds, and only then did he realize that he forgot to reload his pump gun after the first 3 birds he shot at! :rotf:

Don't feel bad, I've been known to forget to chamber another round out in the duck blind. Next bird that comes in gets a "click". Fortunately, I generally duck hunt by myself.
