what do ya guys and gals think of this....i have them tagua nuts from lee valley tools that are veg. ivory....my deer mount from last year carved in my stock and the antlers done in the tagua nuts as inlays....

and keep them raised like the carving will be to keep the 3-D look of the carving and the antlers will be off white like the real deal....i want to do something that WILL make this say my rifle....any thoughts on this if any has done this before or would this be a first that ya heard bout anyone doing this............bob
 
That sounds like an excellent idea. The tagua looks and carves like ivory, even ages like it too. I've never used it for making parts of another carving, as you're going to, but I have used it for inlay- made a small "ivory" cross inlayed into wood, and some other parts for banjo neck inlays.

I also had a scrimshawed oval disc necklace I made as an experimient. Almost undetectable as a fake after aging for a month or two. When you're prepping the tagua for the inlay, save a few discs to scrimshaw on- You can even inlay the discs later.

It should look great as antlers in a 3D carving.
