Well, I got a new .40 I been squirrel hunting with and I didn't have any loading blocks, so I cranked these out today.
Nothing fancy, but they sure are handy sometimes.

Very nice work, I like the color of the wood and looks like you took time to really get the holes lined up and put a nice smooth finish on them.

Nice!
What diameter are the patches? I'm gunna nuke an old hole saw and make a new cutter so was curios.

Well, I left the end on 'em open so if I ever get a scroll saw I can cut a nice little figure of some sort on the end, and 10 shots will do me for a while without having to reload the block.

catman, the wood is some scrap walnut a friend had in his shop. He ran it through his planer to get the thickness I wanted, ripped it to the width I wanted, and then sawed it to length. I found a 27/64 bit at Lowes today and drilled the holes on my drill press. I put one coat of finish I got from Tip Curtis on 'em and loaded 'em up.

brett, the patches are cut from a strip of ticking. I lubed the strip with Bore Butter, laid it on the block, poked the balls into the hole with a starter, and then cut the patching material flush with the block like I was cutting it off at the muzzle of the rifle.
Very simple, and they are a real time saver for hunting.

ya even have room fer holes to hang them on some leather straps fer round yer neck..........bob

Yep, that's an option too. Like the one I made years ago for my .32:

Very nice, love the color. What kind of wood?

Love the starter too.

Thanks!
The .40's are plain old walnut from a buddy's scrap bin. The .32 block and the starter are curly maple.

I made one similar for my .45 out of 5/4 walnut, but it looks crude compared to yours.

I don't go hunting, but made it with 12 holes for shooting the rifle trail at rendezvous.

After looking at yours, I think I might put some more finish work into it.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Thanks!!
I made one for a buddy of mine a couple days ago and inlaid a German silver weeping heart in one end. I should've taken a picture before I mailed it yesterday. :hmm:
