So I had to find something to keep me busy in the evenings. I picked a side of leather and made up a couple cow's knees and ball bags. I'll be making more when I get some more necks.

I did an ugly cloth one too just because I saw some originals in a book that were cloth....but they weren't this ugly, LOL!

I'm BORED!

I really like those ball bags! Do you make any for a .62? I would love some unique individual ones for my .50, .54. and my .62, as well as a larger one to carry shot in for my doubles!!!

I can make some for whatever size neck I got on hand. I'm looking for some more now.

I don't make 'em to sell or anything. I'll probably end up giving most of 'em away as gifts and such. I'm not really all that good at it but from what I've seen of some originals in books, neither were some of those old timers, LOL!!

I'll PM you..

If I had some pics handy I'd show you the two I've done! I did one just plain leather, and another with hair-on goat hide...yeah, it looks like the underside of the goat! so your doing plenty good from where I sit. what do you use for the necks? if I got something I could turn 'em for ya, pm me and we can discuss it further if ya want.

I'll be honest, I have no clue what these things are made of, LOL! Sounds silly but it's true.

I guess I could use some scrap wood and get some turned up, huh?

from where I sit, I'd guess they were antler. wood might work fine for ya though. I don't know how moisture will affect it in this instance though, especially when you put the plug in... should try it and let us know!
If you have any antlers laying around, cut the main beam, just before the brow tine, should get a piece about as long as your thumb (give or take) drill a 1/4" hole and put it on the pen mandrel. obviously you'll need it to be pretty thick when your finished - to expand the hole. so you'll want to start with some thick stuff right off. after that just turn it down to where you want it and your good to go!

I like what your doin. I have recently decided to quit drinking myself. I might be taking up some of the same activities. If I may ask, where do you get the leather?

Jeff

Tandy.

They had a decent price on a side of oily (that's what I call it anyhow) so I went ahead and picked it up.

I've never used oily before. I like it so far. Of course, I guess the little things I'm making can be made out of dang near anything, nothing special needed.

I am glad I quit. I was doing almost a 12 pack a night. Good stuff too, not talking about Natty Light...LOL. My wallet is a little heavier and my belly is a little flatter!!

Congrats on the quitting and picking up a new hobby. Same reason I'm checking out the crafting forum. I have tons of deer horns around, going to make some powder measures and knives, stuff like that. Also looking to get into leather as my knives will need sheaths, and I can always use some extra bags.

Keep working and posting pics I enjoy seeing them and the inspiration you give to us starting down the road you are on! :hatsoff:

I've only gone 3 weeks but see the $ saved from buying a case of Yuengling every 2 days.
