This looks super on a repro gun, how is it done?

If I wanted to produce a finish like that, I'd first use a blue remover like Birtwood Casey sells at wally world - if you heat the metal some first, it works faster.

Then, once it's entirely in the white, I'd fill a bucket with hot, high acid vinegar and then I'd put the pistol in - I'd plug the bore for and aft though with rubber stoppers, and have some oil in there in case they leaked.

Let soak overnight. Remove and lightly buff with 0000 steel wool. Should give a similar look.

I have been able to duplicate that finish with BIRTCHWOOD CASEY PERMA BLUE liquid gun blue. Clean the metal to be refinished with a good degreaser, rinse with cold water, wipe dry. Then sand it to whatever level you want. Clean well after sanding. Shake the bottle , and apply with cotton swabs, or a small cotton patch. Just one coat. Shake the bottle as you apply to your patch, it seems to 'settle' in the bottle somewhat. After you have comeplete coverage, vigorously buff with fine steel wool. Oil it well after you get the shade you like, it will darken somewhat over night. Here is a picture of a trigger guard I refinished lately. It will rust so keep it well oiled. Good luck !!

It was polished to 600 grit, that would be to shiny for what you are looking for. Maybe a glass bead blast, after polihing ,would look more like the pistol in your photo.
