ID an old muzzleloader in a photo

Seen this on FB. The extra fat ram rod makes me think it's a shotgun.

The gun is a .64 cal Hawken w/38+” barrel 55” in length.

Always a chance the gun is a prop from the photographer, although this photograph appears to be taken in the field. A free range photograph possibly.

Yeah that's true.

It’s the real thing. It’s a well documented and detail photographed Hawken. It belonged to Tom Tobin.
That’s Tom in the photo. He purchased the rifle at the Hawken shop in 1844.
