Would anyone recognize the model (or if it had a model name) of this Navy Arms Hawken style .50 cal rifle? 27" barrell, 43 1/2" overall. I only find markings on the barrell. Bought it
at a gun show in Syracuse N.Y.
in 1986 or 87. It was new then, or at least unused never fired at the time.

The rifle is the Navy Arms Hurricane Hawken. Hurricane Hawken rifles were manufactured at various times for/by Navy Arms and differ in minor detail.

1. Some have double set triggers, some don't.

2. Shape of trigger guards.

3. Location of rear sight.

4. Attachment of lock.

Here is mine:

Thank you for the information Okie Hog. Nice looking rifle there! bet she shoots straight to. My two brothers each bought one from same table at that show, my dad a .58 cal. & sister a mule ear .50. All Navy Arms. That explains why the other two were similar yet different to mine & each other (single triggers, plain stock, musket cap & #11, black & plain brass hardware, ect.). All were low serial #s, ironically they must have been seconds, the other two 'hurricane' stocks broke within a week at same area. This one had a hairline appear fairly right off. Drilled, doweled & glued it up, put a strap out ahead of crack and rawhide wrapped hand grip, it served well & shot great up until 3 years ago. Come home to a fire at the cabin where it hung over a window. Managed to get the fire out but the heat apparently opened up that crack rest of the way. Plan to repair or restock it one of these days.

Those rifle stocks have slender wrists. Navy Arms advertised them as good for 140 grains of powder. Heavy powder charges and big conicals busted numerous stocks. Tried mine with patched rounds balls but the twist rate is too fast. The rifle shoots very well with 80 grains of powder and 320 train Maxi Ball.

Those rifles handle very well; i like the long sight radius. Mine will probably be re-bored to .54 caliber with round ball twist.

The SN of my rifle is 00200.
