Going back out shortly and sit that trail to the Oat field again before dark...one tag left and it's a "Hunter's Choice" tag...so I've decided the theme for this afternoon is:

"If it's brown it's down"

Getting burned out on deer hunting...want to end this so I can get started squirrel/small game hunting with the GM Flint smoothbore...

You mean there has been no Deer season in PA yet this year?

no we had archery the 29th of sept till nov 11th with a week of doe the 14th to the 21th of oct fer anything goes muzzle loader season....then deer season the 27th nov till dec 9th....then flintlock only, winter archery and small game on dec 26th till jan 13th and small game till the end of jan....we also had bear season mon - wed before thanksgiving and then the first week of deer in the northeast part of the state fer a exstened season :v .............bob

The NC deer herd is still alive and well.

Beautiful cool afternoon...had a flock of turkeys come scratching through from behind me and on my right...I'm sitting on the ground against a big pine with a lot of natural limbs and brush piled up in a small horseshoe around me & the tree...the whole flock passed me with the closest ones being about 15yds away...never had wild turkeys that close to me before...purring along to each other...could have popped any one of them...of course the season opens next April!

Sat right there till black dark, then began getting ready to leave and let the hammer down on the Flintlock...just as I was fooling with the hammer making loud click-click noises I simultaneously heard something in the leaves behind me...apparently a lone deer had just come up within ear shot from behind (I had the breeze) and at the loud clicks turned and hurried back through the leaves the way it had come.

Never saw a hair...but it was a great hunt with those turkeys almost in my lap...(by the way, didn't see a beard on any of them)...have to wait until next Friday now to try and close out the deer season...

IM still poking around. Saw three bucks all on the farmers field next door. We have one day left for deer gun and then Statewide muzzleloader season 27-30

Sounds like you had a good day, nonetheless.
Them turkeys are a lot of fun to watch.

"If it's brown it's down" and "fur is fair"..... Here in PA we need to look for 3 points on at least one side to qualify for a legal buck. This applies to any buck in any deer season in this state. I don't agree or disagree with this formula the PA Game Commission has come up with but it is what it is. If I had my druthers, I would like to see PA go back to brown down and fur fair type hunting.

Deacon:
Over on the west side of the state we gotta have at least 4 points on one side. The buck doesn't always give you that much time to count.
