Here's a link to a PDF of "American Engraved Powder Horns: A Study Based on the J. H. Grenville Gilbert Collection" published in 1945.
It's a survey of a horn collection including pictures, drawings of engravings, history of owners, etc. 150 pages, but well worth printing out. Hard cover copies, if you can find one, are well over $200.

Some I like, some I think are horrible but still admire the work and skill it took to create them.

But, I've not made a dent in looking at all of them. Just happened to find that one hopping around randomly from page to page and horn to horn.

I'm a hobby m/l gunsmith of 50 + years. I once read from an original 18th century manuscript , that every gun was served by it's unique shot pouch and powder horn. Making a simple plain powder horn to go with a rifle and shot pouch is very gratifying to me. If the person wishes to decorate the horn , perhaps he will be inspired , as well. A unique undecorated , hand made horn can be a blank canvas. Be inspired to shoot well , or to decorate the horn...............oldwood
