Anyone know or have seen a new 1768 Military Heritage Charleville musket? I am leery but curious.

Thanks
Jim

I just saw it listed on their website yesterday. I've been waiting for it since the end of last year, so it's good to know that it should be available any time now.

From what I understand, Military Heritage is doing a 1766 and Loyalist Arms is doing a 1768, although I have yet to see either first hand. My group is looking at picking up some of the LA models, although I'm not sure what the exact differences are. If I understand correctly there's a school of thought that favors the 1768 Charleville as the most correct model for the Continental Army, and I guess we subscribe to it!

Actually, I think I was way off with that post. Check out this thread instead.

Lesson learned -- don't take advice from a RevWar n00b.

So is your group now thinking of getting the MH 1766 version?

I think we're waiting to see how long it's going to be before the Loyalist Arms model is available. I know I for one need a musket for this season, so if it looks like it's going to take until the end of the summer, I'm going MH. I haven't dealt with MH before, so I'm not sure why people are leery of their product. I know theirs looks very accurate based on some originals that I've seen on the web. That being said, I know a few people with Besses made in Japan that look good, but have issues with the locks not working smoothly and rust in the barrels.

That's true. I hadn't even thought of that. Prior to doing RevWar, I was doing 15th Century, so the only thing I had to worry about was having enough slow match!
