I recently purchased my first black powder gun, a TC Hawken 45 caliber rifle at a flea market. As usual, seller did not have any idea about the guns history or condition. I would like to know if anyone can help with the age of the gun. Serial number is K2920X (X replacing last digit). Only other lettering on the barrel is Thompson Center Rochester, New Hampshire 45 caliber. Thanks in advance for any information

use the forum search function to find any of the couple hundred times this question has been asked & you'll get the same basic answer. nobody knows & if ya ask T/C they'll say "we had a fire & all records were lost.

and welcome aboard.

I am not positive but I believe the "K" in the serial number refers to it being a kit, that someone has put together. This is what I was told years ago. Welcome.

Gosh Bubba....you read those "couple hundred times this question has been asked" and you didn't know it was a kit?
OP, how do you like your find? You will quickly discover that the .45 Hawken from T/C is a sweetheart, svelt, accurate and a joy to own. Enjoy your good fortune.

Welcome. :) You have nice rifle. Mine isn't close or I would give the serial number also.

Bubba probably has the most knowledge on the TC Hawken on this forum. Everything was lost in a fire. Everything else is mostly speculation and very broad generalizations as to dates...good luck

OP: Your TC Hawken 45 is a dandy of a rifle. Enjoy. :hatsoff:

Some pictures sure would be nice. Everyone is assuming it's a nice gun, but truth is nobody really knows for sure. I inherited a nice "looking" very early .54cal TC from my fathers estate when he passed away. First off it was loaded. Secondly he had fired it at least four years earlier reloaded it and that's how I received it. The barrel was trash. So it could be a very nice gun or who knows for sure without more info. Just being realistic here, sorry.

Mine is a kit K112xxx, not sure how old
And that settles that!
I'd give ya my serial #, but I don't like the Hawken model and sold it. The numbers off my 2 Renegades, the Big bore and my New Englander would be off topic and of no help at all.

 this springtime headcold from hades has got my head so clogged up by the time I thought about not mentionin. the "k=kit gun" 2 or 3 others had already enlightened him :surrender: .

This one is way beyond bringing back from the grave with elbow grease. I tried all the suggestions and there is just no rifling to speak of left in this barrel. I'm considering sending it to Bob Hoyte in the future maybe and have it taken to .58cal. As of now I replaced it with a .50cal barrel and it's shooting just fine.

Here is an older topic that was started by Idaho Ron. It is very informative and created alot of responses. It will probably answer alot of questions that you may have about your TC Hawken.
