Whats the best method for doing this, Im going to attempt for the time to make a new stock and forearm for my H/A underhammer .36. Never attempted this before so give me the simplest most effective method, have limited tools, drill press, rasps, few chisels, belt sander, disk sander etc. Thanks ahead of time, Dean--The channel is only going to be 12-14 in. long.

By calling Fred Miller and making arrangements ($75 or so for a full-stock).

Otherwise, work very, very slowly with frequent checks and a sharp chisel. You can find the high spots when you get close by sooting up the barrel and pressing it into the stock, then remove the blackened wood and repeat.

Greetings,
Rather than go into a lengthy discussion, I'll default to a wonderful website from a masterful gunmaker, Eric Kettenberg. This link deals specifically with inletting the barrel and drilling the ramrod hole, but I highly recommend that you explore the other articles within the website. This guy is responsible for creating very historically accurate pieces using only traditional handtools. Here's the site: http://www.firelocks.com/page31.html
I hope this helps.......Geoff
