Anyone know what the inside dia. of a 58 cal musket bayonet is? I picked up a nice bayonet at auction today, it's about 5/8 inside dia. Don't know if it fits a 58 or a later 45/70.

Thanks

About 3/4"

Thanks rebel

Measuring it again it seems to be just a tad smaller than 3/4. After cleaning the surface rust it might be 3/4.

Just going from memory, I believe the .58 muzzleloading rifle muskets had a muzzle diameter of about .780".

After getting it cleaned up it mikes about .690 inside diameter. That seems too small for a 58 but too big for a 45/70?

I have a .54 civil war era musket that is .54 caliber and the bayonet socket is close to 3/4 inch ID, this bayonet has 4 sides.I believe the gun is European manufacture possibly Belgium.
