For the pros,

A buddy has a rifle he would like a carrying sling put on. The trigger guard is not suitable for an attachment which leaves a button in the stock for the rear attach point. So far a no brainer. However he would rather not remove the barrek and dovetail a tennon to attach the forward loop, what about replacing one of the pins with the screw for the sling loop and have that serve both for the sling and a barrel pin? Any thoughts good or bad?

Make a tie-on sling. The front ties around the barrel at the height of a thimble and the rear at the trigger-guard bow. No holes to drill.....

You can drill out one of the front barrel tenons for a screw for the sling swivel...assuming that there's enough meat in the tenon to do so.

Yes, you can drill out an existing pin hole; I have done that on a couple of my guns. I know it is not real H/C, but hey, it's my gun and it works great. I also made the rear buttons and front swivels, but that is a real PITA and time consuming for an amateur 'smith (like me!) Much easier to order the parts from TOTW and be done. I think it took me over 2 hours to make a front swivel, what with measuring, bending, drilling, forging, tapping, tweaking, etc. I made the screw out of a finishing nail, 4-40 threads. But.... I can say I did it myself!

Still need to take the barrel out to see where the hole is in the underlug. If it is on the edge of any part, you don't have enough meat to drill it larger for a screw. :hmm: If it is in the middle of the lug, you may can do it.
