Built rifle in 76 very green just getting back into. Took rifle apart putting back together inspection clean out on side of snail reaching into breach is 9/64 is this excessive? TROUBLE.

No sir,after removing the clean out screw I thought the clean was a little more than necessary so I measured.

that 9/64ths sounds about right for a flash channel through a patent breach.
any smaller and one couldn't use a pipe cleaner.

if you have any concerns about switching to 3f just reduce your charge 10-15%. i have switched myself though my powder is all homebrewed.

this is why I clean my barrels in a bucket of hot soapy water and use a tight bore mop so I can get hydraulic action going down into the breech. Then I use anhydrous isopropyl alcohol to draw out any water and then let it dry. So far it has proven good enough to get things clean down there.
