I love oddball pieces. This little box lock fits the bill!

The only wood is the ramrod.

.45 cal, 35.5” barrel. Bore is in real good shape and has 7 deep and wide grooves. Did the town gunsmith or the town blacksmith make it? Maybe it was a joint venture.

The hammer looks like it could have been made out of some old pliers? Hardened steel has been brazed to the hammer and trigger where they interface.

After I fit a new hickory ramrod to it, it will be ready to fire.

The 12.25” LOP is a bit awkward but is nulled out by the cool factor.

No makers marks at all. Here’s some pics…

I love it…Now I have questions….
What area of the country is it’s suspect origin and time period?
Who made it , owned it , used it?

Somebody was making do with what they had…a trait most admire.

It’s American. Several makers were experimenting with faster production methods, an all metal gun was faster to produce in a factory setting. And more rugged for a westwards heading person who probably could afford only one gun. I’ve seen a few like this over the years, hardly any I d marks as to who made them.
