Fellers I have been having a time finding conicals to shoot in my spaghetti plains rifle. It has that 1:48 twist and it shoots absolutely nothing very well.

I did find a 390 gr. lead conical by Buffalo Bullets years ago that turned this rifle into a relative 'tack driver' and they came in a box with a blue label but I can't find them anywhere anymore. The heavier Lee conicals don't seem to stabalize and produce key holes on the targets.

Can you guys recommend a supplier that makes short 54 cal bullets?

If the rifle has a :38" ROT, I suspect the groove depth is more than .003", too. You might try putting an OP wad, at least 1/8" thick, between the powder and the base of that bullet to keep gas from cutting the base of the bullet. That should help the bullet from yawing, and leaving a keyhole in the paper. The slower twist tends to only stabilize short length, lighter weigh ballettes, well. But, some shooters are able to get the longer bullets to shoot well if they increase the velocity, and protect that bullet base from gas cutting.

I used to get some stuff directly from Buffalo Bullet Company. I have heard they were going out of business but don't know if that is true or not. The latest catalog that I have is 2006 and have not talked to them since then. Here is the companies phone number but I don't know if it still works. If it does please let me know if they are still doing business. It looks like they are located in California which now has a lead ban so it very possibly knocked them out of business.

Buffalo Bullet Co. is alive and well @ 12637 Los Nietos Rd. Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670 phone 800-423-8069 or 562-944-0322. I just bought some .32 Ball-ets from them no problem.
