Is this a common barrel measurement?

I spent the last few days researching this so I apologize if this is a dumb question but I am stumped.

I have a barrel made in the early to mid 60's in Belgium. .40 cal Kentucky style flintlock. The rear sight is very tall, shoots high, and doesn't really match the gun. I'm going to remove it, take a file to it, and reshape it. But in the event that I bugger it up I was looking at ordering a new one. I have looked everywhere for the proper size. The smallest I have found is 13/16 - 7/8. The flats on my barrel are 5/16 - 3/8. Am I missing something here? Is this an oddball size? The one that came on the gun is so large it makes me wonder if I have an uncommon sized barrel. I realize in the event that I do it's just going to be ordering a 13/16th sight and filing down but it would be nice to get closer.

Thanks, Rob

Almost all sights are oversized, filing them down to fit without a lot of metal hanging out of the dovetail is part of the gun building process.

As was mentioned; you measure the barrel width and not the flat to get a ball park figure to order a sight.
