Is this a good price for an 1851?

I found a dealer that will sell me a new Uberti Cimarron 1851 Squareback for $278.61. Shipping is another $13.

This sounds pretty good to me for a Cimarron but I wanted to check with you experts first.

The best price on a non Cimmaron Uberti I have found so far is $260 + $15 shipping.

FWIW, the only Uberti I now have is a Cimarron Dragoon, so I don't really know the real differences between the two. I hear and have read that Cimarron pieces are pretty much hand picked Uberti's. Might not be true but that is what I hear.

Thanks!

Price sounds OK. I have a Uberti Pocket Police that is a good gun. One of the first C&B revolvers I ever bought (late 70s).

As far as Cimarron quality...

Uberti makes the guns for Cimarron and they are supposed to be a little better grade.

I have a Cimarron Lightning and a Cimarron Bisley that are both good shooters - but I had a problems with both out of the box. My Lightning came with a firing pin that was too short. It would barely dent the primers. Cimarron offered to repair it, but considering the turn around time and shipping, I had one made by a local gunsmith and was back in business in a couple of days. The stamping was pretty botched on the barrel, but I later had that taken off.

The Bisley was another story. The cylinder was so aggressively buffed during the final finish that it would not lock up. Had to replace that. Still had problems in getting it to fire and wound up going to VTI and replacing the hammer assembly with one minus the safety features. Then came the springs and other internals. I ended up with more than double the cost of the gun after shipping was factored in to get it right. In the end, it has been a great shooter - but, I would have bought a USFA instead of a Cimarron if I had known all the problems it had. I know you can get a lemon with any make of gun - but I am not convinced that the quality of the Cimarron is significantly different than the standard Uberti line. For something that is supposed to be hand picked, mine must have went through around quitting time on Friday.
