I am staying upstairs for the rest of the day!

I went down to the shop area and picked up the stock I'm working on. I didn't smack it with that wooden mallet but two or three times before a big chumk of wood broke off just ahead of the lock pannel!

Must have been defective wood!

Or maybe I was not using a big enough hammer!

Either way I am not going back down there today, or at least not until the Elmers dries throrughly. I might be on a bad roll and there are power tools down there!

Anyway, I have lost my creative and motivative powers. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

:hmm: :results:

Good day to take a break from the action. :curse: Go back down and look Maybe it's not as bad as you think it is. Might not even see it.
Lehigh..

Everytime something like that has happened to me and I tried to continue working.. the problems just multiplied over and over. Pull the cover over your head and stay away from the power tools.
PD

I already glued it up.

It glues really well and hardly shows a seam!

It is a maple half stock with ripple in the grain, and very brittle!

This is the second break and I knew better.

It's a throw together parts gun and I had used acra-glas for bedding the lock and had not used enough release agent.

CVA barrel, Traditions lock, leftover hardware from God only knows where, I'm not naming the stock supplier since this is not typical of their work (and I bought it as a second).

I'll use it for a target gun since I will have an advantage in being able to shoot while everyone else is doubled over laughing at my rifle!

Sounds great! If you have a hard time seeing the repair nobody will ever see it till you point it out

It hardly shows a seam in the "un-stained" stage, wonder what the finished stage will yield?

That ought to set the wheels a turning...

Seems like that hard maple cracks easily some times I had the toe crack on the shotgun I am building while fitting a homemade brass buttplate on it. The companion rifle I am building with it held up fine but not the shotgun the wood broke off in thick flakes. I had to re-glue that too but I did not feel too bad as these were 10 dollar specials a buddy had that he got from some where. I suppose at one time they cost more then 10 bucks but that is what he charged me. Jim

Accraglass and release agent. You never seem to have enough on to make it pop right off. Next time, if there is room, put the whole thing in the freezer overnight before you try to release it. It really helps.
