Not sure how the L. Mountain Rust solution turns blue, but it really does. Followed the directions and turned out two beautiful rust blued parts. Love it when things work as they should. Still can't figure out by appling heat rust turns blue. I know it's magic! !

Did you just apply heat or did you heat it with boiling water?
If you used boiling water, the water changes the type of rust from brown to a black colored rust.

Used boiling water, black rust/blue rust, it looks blue. Are you saying if I would have heated it I would have gotten more of a blue?

I be interested in seeing a picture if you can possibly post one.

No.
When I first read your original post, it seemed to be saying the color change was due to heat. You didn't mention water and water (or steam) is the key ingrediant.

The hot water (or steam) changes the rust from ferrous oxide (brown) to Ferro-Ferric oxide (black).

The black color can take on a blue cast often seen on older Colts among other guns.

Thanks, that explains it, I new it was chemistry, but I didn't know how it worked.
